In a recent #GQ feature honoring the legacy of #NipseyHussle, various people including DJ Khaled, Ava DuVernay, Nipsey’s father Dawit Asghedom and brother/business partner Samiel Asghedom along with long-time love #LaurenLondon shared personal stories they had with Nip.
Losing Nipsey to gun violence is something the hip hop community is still healing from and when it comes to processing Nip’s death, Lauren admitted, “I can’t talk about our last day together, and I still have to be strong for my children.
London, 35 who shares son Kross with the slain rapper goes on to say, I have a three-year-old that’s still asking, ‘Where is Daddy?’ He doesn’t understand the concept of death.”
To start Lauren started off with how she met Nipsey,
“We met through a mutual friend, like, on the phone. Because we’re both from L.A., we had a lot of friends in common. I had a couple of homegirls that had hung out with him and would come back to me like, ‘Oh, my God! You would really like Nip! He seems like your type!'”
The couple met up a few times and Lauren says it just felt natural. Lauren describes Nipsey as a gentle father who was very present, loved spicy foods (especially her tacos ) and says he was extremely spontaneous saying.
“He would be like, “Boog, let’s go out of town.” And I’d go with him and no luggage. He was very fu in that way. He loved having fun. We’d wake up in the morning, and he’d be like, “Bet you won’t get on a roller coaster.” We would literally just wash our faces, brush our teeth, put on sweats, and go to Magic Mountain, randomly, to get on a roller coaster and start the day.”
Lauren also says she feels the love of the city but is still in the process of healing for herself and her family.
