If you would have asked Swizz Beatz’s ex-wife Mashonda 10 years ago if she would be having girl talk with Swizz’s new wife, Alicia Keys she would have laughed in your face.
But Mashonda says “that time has healed all wounds.” Most people remember the open letter Tifrere wrote to the Girl On Fire singer but not the work it took for Mashonda, Swizz, and Alicia Keys to work out their differences and become a blended family.
The first time the ladies ever met alone was in 2012 following Swizzled and Mashonda’s son KJ’s sixth birthday.
“With Alicia, there’s no way that I could just push her to the side because she is the woman in my son’s life,” she says. “I wanted to get to know her because my son was telling me amazing things.”
The pairs first initial meeting was very guarded but by the second one the women realized they were bonded forever.
Even Swizz says Mashonda and Alicia are the ultimate Krazy Glue that keeps their blended family together. In Mashonda’s book Blend, she offers advice on harmonious co-parenting for your child’s sake. “I’m using my own story as a testimony, A. Keys even wrote the foreword and Swizz contributed a chapter.
Tifrere revealed to People the two share a sisterhood. They talk about the latest tea and Alicia even gets the deets on who she’s dating.
But right now she says she’s focused on raising their son, blending and trying to be a beacon of light for other nontraditional families.
