Terry Crews’ wife, Rebecca Crews was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer only a few weeks ago.
“Though it was Stage 1, you’re overwhelmed with fear,” Rebecca, 54, shared with People of her experience. “Like cancer is this all-consuming, all-powerful evil entity.”
After her mother had a cancerous lump removed last year, Rebecca became actions about her own health.
Following her most recent doctor’s appointment and getting the news confirming she had breast cancer, she was very optimistic.
However, Terry Crews did not have the same reaction to the news.
“My husband has watched me go through a lot, but the look on his face … he looked at me like I was going to die,” she said. “He told me it felt like his insides were melting. I said, ‘I need you to be strong for me,’ and he said, ‘OK,’ and hugged me, but I think he needed that hug.”
Rebecca underwent a double mastectomy on March 3rd with her husband, best friend and pastor by her side. Because of this decision, she will not have to undergo radiation treatment.
With the coronavirus pandemic, she has come against challenges while recovering with a compromised immune system which has caused the mother of five to express some worry.
“I’ve been so nervous, too, because a couple times I’ve woken up in the middle of the night with trouble breathing and thought, ‘Oh no.’”
One of the best things about having a dope partner is their ability to comfort you in the hard times. And that has been what her husband of 30 years Terry Crews is set on doing.
“I have to give him his props because he’s been cooking for me, helping me bathe, and just really stepping up,” Crews says. “I tease him all the time, I’m like, Did I have to get cancer to be treated like this?!’”
